Basketball!! Who doesn’t know about this world renowned sport which ahs gained immense spectatorship over the years and still continues to be a hot favorite amongst all age groups when it comes to sports and games? So what exactly is the game of basketball all about, let us know about this so very attractive and interesting form of sport. Ok so basically basketball is a ball game played between two teams where there are five members in each team, and each of them tries to score points against each other by pushing the ball through a 10feet or rather a 3m high net basket or you can say a hoop. Propelling the ball through the net is considered a basket or a goal and the team which scores maximum number of goals is announced the winner at the end of the game. In the court the ball can be advanced by dribbling it or passing it between the teammates. During the game maintaining Disruptive physical contact is considered as a foul; also there are restrictions on handling the ball as well and this is known as violation of rules.

Measurements and time limits are an integral part of this sport and henceforth are discussed in the beginning of the game. However these as such are not fixed and so are variable for different tournaments and organizations.

The main objective of the game is to outscore the opposite team by propelling the ball through the opponent’s basket from above as many as possible and along with preventing the opponent from doing the same in your basket. This kind of an attempt in the game of basketball is termed as a shot. The scoring point for the shot varies according to the distance it has been hit from; for a normal shot as indicated above there are two pints and then three points are there for those shots which are taken from beyond the three point arc on the court which is like 6.25m or rather 20ft6inches in the international rules and 7.24m or 23ft9inches for the NBA rules.

The game of basketball permits only a limited number of clock stoppages and time outs however if need be then the coach can request for short meetings with the players of his/her team which are usually allowed for like a minute or two unless it is a televised game which can demand a break as in a commercial one which last a bit longer but only in case it is required.

Apart from the players and coaches; the game is managed by the officials which includes referee known as a "crew chief" in men’s college and the NBA, one or two umpires referred to as referees in men’s college and NBA and the table officials. As such for the colleges, high schools and NBA there are in all three referees on the court. The game is controlled by the officials consisting of the referee ("crew chief" in men's college and the NBA), one or two umpires ("referees" in men's college and the NBA) and the table officials. For college, the NBA, and many high schools, there are a total of three referees on the court. For the table officials they accountable for maintaining a record of team scores, timekeeping, team fouls, shot clocks, player substitutions, individual fouls and team possession arrows.
